{"id":19563,"date":"2024-09-19T21:55:27","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T20:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.toomik.net\/helen\/blog\/?p=19563"},"modified":"2024-09-25T22:04:17","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T21:04:17","slug":"daily_3490_-_black_and_white_embroidery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.toomik.net\/helen\/blog\/2024\/09\/19\/daily_3490_-_black_and_white_embroidery\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily: 3490 &#8211; black and white embroidery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The embroidery course isn&#8217;t until Tuesday, but the deadline for sending in photos of our work for discussion in Tuesday&#8217;s session is tomorrow afternoon, so I&#8217;ve been working hard.<\/p>\n<p>The design inspiration:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/helen\/blog\/images\/daily_4\/3483_patterns_5.jpg\" class=\"x6y45\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the first, A5-sized version:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/helen\/blog\/images\/daily_4\/3490_embroidery_1.jpg\" class=\"x6y45\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then the same thing scaled-down to A6:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/helen\/blog\/images\/daily_4\/3490_embroidery_2.jpg\" class=\"x6y45\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t want the downscaling to be just a straight-up copy, because where is the fun in that, so I stitched the black areas instead of using appliqu\u00e9. I kind of like it because the surfaces now have both structure as well as a flow and a direction. But I also don&#8217;t like it because the speckled look does not have the same impact <i>at all<\/i> as the unbroken black.<\/p>\n<p>Also I just eyeballed the scaling-down and clearly didn&#8217;t get the proportions quite right. Should clearly have used a grid. The white blank space in the middle came out too large and takes over.
